A restricted fire zone is now in effect across Northwestern Ontario.
A severe forest fire situation, with multiple fires started by
lightning and humans, is challenging firefighting resources.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says they can’t afford any more
fires.
All open fires are now banned in the Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout,
Kenora, Fort Frances, Thunder Bay and Nipigon Districts.
120 forest fires were reported over the long weekend and the Region is facing drought-like conditions.
