A new report is out on health care needs and priorities across the country.
The ‘Why Health Matters’ document was drafted by the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario.
Chief Executive Officer Doris Grinspun says they are using the 17-recommendations as a template for the federal election campaign and is urging candidates to discuss the findings.
One of the key recommendations is establishing a national pharmacare plan.
Grinspun says drug costs continue to go up and the system is close to breaking.
She notes other areas identified include access to affordable housing, measures to reduce poverty, and a clean environment.
Grinspun stresses Ontario is in desperate need of more Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
She says the report was drafted with input from a number of individuals and groups including the public, nurses, doctors, nursing students as well as various health care organizations.
