Dryden’s outgoing Chief of Police says the community will always hold a special place in his heart.
Rob Davis announced this week he will be leaving the community in January to become the new Chief of the Lethbridge Police Department.
Davis says the Police Services Board and the City of Dryden have been incredible but he stresses the new opportunity is “too good to be true.”
He adds it was a homecoming of sorts when he came to Dryden as his mom is from here, his grandfather was on Council for four decades and his great grandfather was a 2-term mayor.
Davis says the timing of the announcement had nothing to do with the municipal election and its results.
He adds he would have loved to stay another 4-years in Dryden, noting the City has a strong Mayor and Council.
The main event under his watch was the closing of the Communications Centre.
Davis says with the financial situation of the City, the Police Service had to do their part to dig out of the hole.
He stresses it was unfortunate that jobs were lost but notes the move had to happen and it was long overdue.
Davis says he is proud of the partnerships formed with the aboriginal community.
He notes there’s still work to be done but there is more trust between the two right now.
Personally, he will miss his involvement with the Dryden Eagles High School Football team.
Davis calls them a great bunch of individuals and stresses if that’s the future of Dryden, the City is in good hands.
