We regret to announce the passing of Robert Joseph Andrew Buttner on September 26, 2008. Bob was born on July 25, 1936 on the family homestead 6 miles NE of Lestock, SK. The family moved to the Pinewood area in ON in the fall of 1939 living in a farmhouse about 5 miles north of Pinewood. The family again moved in 1943-44 to Stratton ON where Bob and his siblings grew up. Those were happy years for the family. Bob played various sports including hockey and baseball. He and his siblings went to the Morley Public School. In 1952 Bob, on the invitation from a relative, went to work on one of the freighters sailing the Great Lakes. He worked on the ships for about 4 years, coming home only for Christmas and the winter months before returning permanently to Fort Frances. He subsequently married Patricia Gray and started his own family. Bob worked as a stationary engineer at the Fort Frances Hospital before moving to Dryden. He then became chief engineer at Dryden Regional Hospital.
Bob was predeceased by his parent Annette and Joe Buttner. He is survived by his sons, Wayne Buttner (Claire) of Dryden, Charles Buttner of BC and Andy Buttner of Dryden, by his daughters Juanita Otto (Fred) of AB and Melissa Lockhart of Dryden. Also surviving are his grandchildren George Brignall, Cynthia Buttner, Jason McGowan, Amanda and Brittany Otto, Paul and Amy Buttner, Bridgid and Hilary Lockhart and Madison Buttner, his great grandchildren William and Jonathon Gibbons and Gwendolyn McGowan.
A Memorial Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Bob Buttner was held Wednesday, October 1st at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Alan Campeau officiating. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.
