Roger Valley got a nice $23,500 raise last week & virtually no one knew about it at the time.
Just before hacking 10% out of the Governor General’s $4 million annual budget, MPs quietly decided to boost their own office budgets by 10%.
The ultra-secret Board of Internal Economy, a small all-party panel which meets only behind closed doors, agreed to hike office budgets to tackle the mounting workload of MPs.
Some wanted an even bigger boost but that didn’t pass & travel budgets were unchanged from previous levels.
Many say even at $258,000/ year it is tough to pay for the costs of leases on constituency offices & an ever expanding staff list ot handle the increasing workload.
For some, like Valley who has a massive riding to serve, those costs can be debilitating.
