Rosehart Report Released

The Northwestern Ontario Economic Facilitator has delivered a 74-page
report to the Provincial Government on changing the regional economy.
The 47-recommendations come from consultations with 120-groups,
16-municipalities and more then 20-aboriginal leaders.
Dr. Bob Rosehart says expanding the all-weather road network to include more access roads in the Far North and twinning Highway 17 from Kenora to Thunder Bay are among the recommendations.
Other suggestions include the creation of a Forest Industry
Secretariat, utilizing the Boreal Forest and moving to value-added material.
The report also includes a number of suggestions to enhance tourism,
including a recommendation for the MNR to review its regulations on the use
of Crown Land to allow for the development of adventure tourism.
Rosehart says several recommendations to help aboriginals are also included in the report including the establishment of a Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs
Regional office in Sioux Lookout and the consideration of an aboriginal
school system.
