Area tourist camp owners are outraged with a call from PETA to
ban bear baiting.
Vermilion Bay Outfitter Chris Lavoie says the animal rights group is
trying to rid bear hunting for good, which is a huge economic generator for
hundreds in Northwestern Ontario.
Lavoie says the practice is ethical and humane and helps hunters
determine the sex of the bear.
He adds bear baiting also keeps the bruins in the bush and away from
berry pickers and communities.
Lavoie says what is really needed is the return of the Spring Bear Hunt.
