Canada Safeway is offering buyouts to its most senior staff at its Manitoba stores.
A Safeway spokesperson says the company hopes to improve its competitive position in Manitoba by dropping some of its high salaries.
The company hopes about 400 employees will accept the voluntary buyout which could mean an employee with 30 years of service would receive 35-thousand dollars.
Meantime in Northwestern Ontario, workers at Safeway stores in Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances have voted to strike although no date for that action has been set.
