A thrilling conclusion to the Northern Bands First Nations Hockey Tournament in Dryden.
The Sandy Lake Riverhawks claimed the 2016 championship with a nail biting 1-0 victory over the Michikan Bears Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Arena.
The Riverhawks defeated the defending champion Lac Seul Obish to earn the right to play in the championship final.
Sandy Lake takes home $22,000 with the victory, while the Bears walked away with $14,000.
The Pikangikum Ice Bears defeated the Keewaywin Hawks to win the ‘B’ side title and $8,000 in cash.
The ‘C’ side title went to Team Webequie with a 5-2 win over the Lac Seul Ice Devils.
That earned Webequie $4,500.
