Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell is supporting a call for an independent environment assessment of the Goliath Gold project in Wabigoon.
Campbell delivered a petition signed by an unknown number of residents to MPP’s on the final day of business at Queen’s Park.
The petition states the proposed plan for effluent dispersal into Wabigoon Lake will threaten drinking water and fish populations.
It goes on to say the open pit gold mine will impact residents in terms of noise, light and dust pollution.
Campbell notes Ontario is the only province in Canada to not apply its environmental assessment process to the full extent for mining projects.
