Sarah Campbell Still Has Concerns About Hydro Plan

The provincial government is being accused of leaving medium-sized businesses out of its latest hydro rate reduction plan.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell says the Nickle Lake Lumber Company near Fort Frances is struggling to make ends meet due to soaring electricity bills.

Campbell says the sawmill is too big to receive proposed rebates and bill reductions.

She says their hydro bill has jumped 50% in the last few years.

However, Energy Minister Glen Thibeault says medium-sized businesses are now covered under the Industrial Conservation Initiative and will benefit from lower hydro rates.
