Save Some Money This Winter

Colder weather means using more energy to heat your home and those with electric heating will likely see a jump in their hydro bill.

Hydro One is trying to limit the damage with a few tips for homeowners.

The crown corporation says ensuring you have a fully functional furnace will help avoid heat loss and will keep your bill down.

You should check intake and exhaust air vents to make sure they are clear as well ensure you have a new filter.

It also helps if you clear the area around your furnace to ensure it’s ventilated and set your furnace fan switch to automatic.

Hydro One is also recommending folks sign up for budget billing to avoid fluctuations in their bill as bills are evened out over a 12-month period.

You can also use a programmable thermostat to avoid heating and cooling your house when no one is home.

Homeowners should also do a thorough check to ensure there are no gaps in windows and doors to avoid heat loss.

A helpful tip is sealing your windows with plastic sheeting.
