The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says its going to have to overhaul its school closure policy to conform with provincial regulations.
Currently the public school board can identify a school for closure in September, and decide by March whether it should be closed or not.
Under new provincial guidelines, school boards have to give at least 12 months notice before shutting down a school.
Superintendant of Business, Dean Carrie says trustees are being asked to fill out a questionaire indicating what criteria should be used to determine if a school should be closed, and how much time should be taken before a final decision is made.
