The federal budget has introduced several measures that are expected to assist the country’s aging population.
That includes a new home accessibility tax credit of up to $1,500 for seniors in an effort to support those who want to renovate their homes to make them safer.
Executive Director of the Seniors Coalition Cecile Cassista says the home accessibility tax credit won’t benefit many seniors because most don’t have $10,000 to pay for renovations up front..
The government is also planning to reduce the amount of money seniors 71 and older must take out of their Registered Retirement Income Fund every year.
Cassista adds when you look at the overall budget, it’s not for the working poor, or the middle class, it is for the wealthy.
