A group of local residents bid for a Dialysis Unit at the Dryden Regional Health Centre has hit a major road block.
They met with a Thunder Bay specialist Tuesday who advised them that the decision is a Provincial one and right now the service is a money losing enterprise.
The specialist added that an attempted bid would be turned down due to the costs and Government restructuring.
Eagle Lake First Nation Chief Robert Gardner believes the Liberals don’t understand the dire situation.
Gardner says the community has committed $100,000 towards the project and he plans on lobbying the Government
He will be raising the issue when Grand Council Treaty #3 members meet on Monday and Gardner will be asking for their support.
Gardner has also learned that the Ministry would not likely entertain a stand alone bid from Dryden and costs would be half a million dollars a year.
The Thunder Bay Regional Hospital handles dialysis services and Officials have applied for funds to expand the Sioux Lookout Satellite site and are searching for another specialist as a short term fix.
Setback for Dialysis Unit
