Sharp Decline In False Alarm Calls

The Dryden Police Board believes a new false alarm policy is making a difference.

Plagued with numerous false alarm calls and wasted time on police resources, the City approved new rules and penalties last November.

New statistics show the measures are helping.

False alarm calls at the end of March were 25, compared to 72 this time last year.

In all of 2016, the Police Service was inundated with a total of 406 calls.

Board member Roger Valley says he’s pleased with the progress being made and notes they should be ready to step up the penalties if need be.

Fines are now $50 and enforcement has been stepped up.

Police Chief Doug Palson says warnings are still given once every three months, but believes businesses are making a conscious effort to eliminate the need for police call-out’s.
