Fewer and fewer students are being suspended these days.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says it’s seen a sharp drop in the number of suspensions in the past decade.
Superintendent of Education Joan Kantola says they are working with staff more to try and find alternatives.
Kantola says they are using practices such as healing circles, counselling and restorative justice as options to suspending students.
There were just 251 suspensions handed out last year compared to over 2,100 ten years ago.
Last year was the first time ever suspensions at the public school board were actually lower than the provincial average.
