The Federal government has committed to building the Freedom Road to Shoal Lake 40.
Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Carolyn Bennett confirmed the Liberals $10-million share of the project Thursday, at an announcement in the Manitoba Legislature.
The Province of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg had already announced their $10-million shares earlier this year, at a ceremony on the First Nation.
The Freedom Road will connect the Trans-Canada to Shoal Lake 40, which has been without all-weather access since the Winnipeg Aqueduct was built almost 100 years ago.
Chief Irwin Redsky has said the community will not support twinning the Trans-Canada Highway until the road is built.
Early indications say construction on the road will begin next year.
