There is another hurdle to jump when it comes to twinning Highway 17 to the Manitoba boundary.
Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer was in the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation recently to discuss the project.
Chief Irwin Redsky says he won’t support the project until money is guaranteed for the single lane all-weather “Freedom Road” to his community.
Redsky says a feasibility study has been done and both the provincial and federal governments are on board with designing the road.
It’s estimated to cost $30-million.
He notes Zimmer is writing to other Ontario ministries as well as federal counterparts about the demand.
