Short Term Agreement Reached in Grassy

Grassy Narrows First Nation and the Ministry of Natural Resources have
signed a memorandum of understanding.
Both sides agreed Monday to create a positive, long-term
Relationship by starting new talks on forest management.
The breakthrough follows 6-months of discussions between the
Kenora-area reserve and former Supreme Court Judge Frank Iacobucci.
Grassy Narrows has been complaining for years that forestry operations
are destroying their land.
Minister of Natural Resources Donna Cansfield says they will complete a traditional use study in the Grassy area, conduct an environmental inventory and identify economic opportunities in the area.
It’s also hoped that a road blockade that has been in place for 6-years will be finally coming down.
