The Minister of Municipal Affairs is taking a look at the municipal election campaign period.
Ted McMeekin feels the 10-month campaign is far too long.
McMeekin says the Liberal government may dramatically shorten the campaign period for municipal elections in time for the next round of voting in 2018.
He notes federal and provincial election campaigns are four to five weeks long, and municipalities probably don’t need 10 full months of campaigning.
McMeekin is suggesting the campaign to start the day after Labour Day with voting still on the last Monday in October.
