Sid (Clarence Sidney) Prouty

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, Sid Prouty, on May 8, 2011. He was surrounded by his family and went peacefully.

He was born in Dryden February 1, 1929, to Charles and Daisy Prouty, the eleventh of fourteen children.
He grew up in Dryden and attended area schools and was a life- long resident.

He is survived by his children: Lou (Ray) Moody, Peggy (John) Groves, Kim (Dennis) Desaulniers, Robyn (Ed) Dziarmaga, Tracy (Bob) Shuparsky, Chip (Wendy) Prouty, sister Rella Bailey of Kamloops, B.C., 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and his faithful four-legged companion Sassy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Sid spent many years in the construction industry, all across Canada, building roads, mines, pipelines, and anything else a hoisting engineer was needed to do. He was a long time employee of Hutchison Contracting and Hoey & McMillan and was a member of the IUOE Local 793.

Dad enjoyed gardening, yard work, and making walking trails for Sassy. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a very wry sense of humour, right up until the end.

He was predeceased by his wife Joyce in 1999, his daughter Jocelyn in 1989, his parents, Charles and Daisy, 7 brothers and 5 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society, the Canadian Hearing Society, or the Canadian Cancer Society, Make a Wish Foundation.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
