SIJHL Commissioner Talks Expansion South Of Border

The Commissioner of the Superior International Junior Hockey League is excited about the future now that expansion plans have been announced.

A conditional franchise has been awarded to Thief River Falls, Minnesota for next season.

Bryan Graham says there’s a lot of excitement in that community, as they have already been well received.

He notes the beautiful 3,500 seat arena will be the “crown jewel” of the arena.

The ownership group consists of Kevin McCallum of Thunder Bay as well as former NHL’er Tim Berglund.

Graham says Berglund has already embraced the concept.

The new team still needs Hockey Canada approval as well as an arena lease agreement.

Graham says they want to see new teams in the league to award the fan base they currently have and to promote the league to other areas.
