SIJHL Hands Out Suspensions

The SIJHL is out with the suspensions from Game 3 of the Bill Salonen Cup and surprisingly the Dryden GM Ice Dogs have been hit the hardest.

The league has suspended Thunder Bay forward Avery Siau indefinitely for going after Matthew Pitchenese in the penalty box late in the third and for sucker punching Ice Dogs head coach Kurt Walsten after the game.

Walsten received a black eye and damaged nose but wasn’t seriously injured.

Thunder Bay Police continue to investigate.

However, Dryden GM has learned that Pitchenese and Carson Lux have also received an indefinite suspension for actions that had nothing to do with the end of the game melee.

CKDR has learned the disciplinary action is due to gestures made by the two players heading into the penalty box.

None of the gestures were deragatory or demeaning and were directed to the Press box area.

Both teams also received the same amount of fines despite the fact that several Dryden players and staff were threatened and spit on after the contest.

The SIJHL has promised heightened security for the remaining of the final.

On the ice, Game 4 is tonight at 6:30 central and CKDR has the call.
