SIJHL Set To Expand

Finally some growth in the Superior International Hockey League.

The league has announced conditional expansion plans to Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

The community of 8,700 is located about an hour north of the North Dakota border.

The group is owned by former Dryden Ice Dogs trainer Kevin McCallum.

He’s joined by Dave Beito, President of Northern State Bank, former NHL’er Tim Berglund and Tom Goddard.

The deal still needs Hockey Canada approval as well as an arena lease agreement.

It has already received U.S. Hockey and SIJHL Board of Governor approval.

The announcement now puts expansion plans to Kenora on the back shelf.

McCallum was trying to get a team there last year, but failed to get the support from City Council.
