Sioux Lookout has adopted its 2013 Operating and Capital Budget.
Mayor Dennis Leney says he is pleased with the work staff has done and that the community will be able to move forward with priorities while keeping the tax increase to 1.99-percent.
The last number that council had in mind was a 4-percent increase.
Leney adds that they are going to be able to maintain existing services and still be able to continue with infrastructure projects, such as improving the roads in Hudson as well as maintenance within the municipality.
The new budget also means that the city won’t have to dig into their reserves as much as other communities have.
Leney says he hasn’t really heard anything bad regarding the tax increase, noting that majority of people understand there’s going to be a tax increase in order to keep services.
City staff will provide more information on what the budget means for residents in the coming weeks.
