Sioux Lookout, Hudson and Frenchmen’s Head have been selected as one of the province’s modern wood heat pilot program.
The new initiative is made possible by the Green Ontario Fund and is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from homes.
It allows residents to retire their older wood stoves and exchange them with new, high-efficiency wood heat appliances.
Specific details of the program haven’t been released but officials say that further information, workshops and trade shows will be coming.
Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance says the financial incentives surrounding this program will allow residents and businesses to reduce energy costs.
Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Chris Ballard says Ontario is committed to supporting initiatives in northern communities that fight climate change.
