A prolonged legal battle involving a Sioux Lookout family doctor is over.
According to CBC News, Len Kelly has resigned from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, avoiding allegations of possessing child pornography.
The move comes years after criminal charges against him were dropped and several months after he lost a court battle to have evidence related to the case destroyed.
His lawyer, Peter Griffin, says the resignation coincided with Kelly’s retirement, which was prompted by a “very serious illness” in 2013.
Griffin says Kelly tried to return to work last year, but found his illness prevented him from continuing to practice.
Kelly is also a faculty member at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
