The first day of the Sioux Walleye Weekend is done – and it proved that catching the biggest fish of the day doesn’t mean a ‘Top Five’ finish.
Doug Pierce St. and Doug Pierce Jr. brought in a 6.36 pound Walleye to take ‘Big Fish’ for the first day, but the combined weight of their four fish was 9.26 pounds – and that was only good enough for ninth place.
In top spot were Kyle and Jax Hulsey with 10.74 pounds in total weight, but at least six teams in the top ten had larger ‘big fish,’ proving the importance of the three ‘under slot’ fish to the total weight.
Rounding out the Top Five were Jeremy and Jensen Bryan with 10.52 pounds, Todd and Jason MacDonald with 10.42, Vic and dean Guarino at 10.1 and Gord Edmond and Remi Lavoie at 9.74 pounds. (Weights and standing are unofficial at press time)
55 teams are competing in the two-day tournament, which concludes Sunday afternoon with award ceremonies scheduled for about 5:30 at the Legion in Sioux Lookout.
