SIU Won’t Be Able To Investigate Officers On Naloxone Deaths

Some peace of mind for police officers.

The provincial government is removing the Special Investigation Unit’s ability to launch a probe when a person dies while an officer is administering Naloxone to an overdose victim.

Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Sylvia Jones says no one should face repercussions because they are doing their job to save a life.

Jones says the change will ensure officers are treated with the same respect as other emergency first responders.

She stresses this allows them to carry out their duties without fear of facing a criminal investigation.
