Dryden Council has paved the way for City staff to go ahead with small expenditures under $5,000 before the Capital Budget is approved.
In the past, all purchases had to be cleared through Council prior to the budget being passed.
Bill Brown was the only one to vote against the change because he has concerns so-called ‘smaller projects’ will add up in cost.
Brown says Council should have their hands on the budget at all times.
City Manager Arie Hoogenboom says all purchases will still have to be approved by Department heads and everything will be closely monitored.
He expects less the 10 items would be involved on a yearly basis.
