The Ministry of Municipal Affairs has established a new committee designed to identify areas of economic growth in Northwestern Ontario.
Fort Frances Mayor Glen Witherspoon has been appointed to head the panel for the Kenora, Rainy River and Thunder Bay Districts.
Witherspoon says there is a potential for secondary industries to be created instead of focusing on primary industries and shipping natural resources elsewhere.
The mayors of Dryden, Kenora and Thunder Bay are among the community leaders named to the new smart growth panel.
