Provincial Police in Sioux Lookout are reporting an incident where smoking and firearm charges were laid.
Police say they observed a vehicle on Friday on Front Street where inside a person had a lit cigarette.
Police then say there also appeared to be another person in the vehicle who appeared to be under 16 years old.
An officer approached the vehicle to investigate the incident and found a rifle in the back seat with a loaded magazine, but no round in the chamber.
Police say no one in the vehicle had a possession acquisition licence for the rifle.
As a result of the investigation a 73 year old man from New Saugeen First Nation was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and the rifle was seized.
The man was given a court date of May 1st, 2018.
The person who lit the cigarette was given a provincial offence notice for smoking tobacco in a vehicle while another person under the age of 16 is present.
