Ontario Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Kathryn McGarry says the government has no intentions on fast tracking new Species at Risk guidelines.
McGarry is now promising more consultations and has hit the pause button to take a second look at proposed changes.
She stresses they want to ensure the science is right and everyone has a chance to chime in on the regulations.
McGarry says the province will be working with the Federal government on any modifications.
Progressive Conservative critic Norm Miller is asking to see data the government is collecting on the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act.
Miller is concerned that by focusing on species like woodland caribou, the Liberals could negatively impact the moose population in the north.
He believes the government is trying to manage the forest for caribou that simply aren’t there in northern Ontario.
