Independent truckers and transport companies have 6-months to comply with new provincial legislation limiting the top speed of their vehicles to 105-kilometres an hour.
The regulation went into effect in Ontario on January first.
The requirement addresses safety and environmental issues and applies to trucks manufactured after 1995.
Manitoulin Transport President Gord Smith says the company’s approximately 700 trucks are already in compliance and are actually set at speeds below the requirement.
He said the system provides supervisors with daily reports of driver and vehicle performance.
