It’s time for women in Northwestern Ontario to talk about breast cancer.
The Canadian Cancer Society has launched it’s Women to Women Campaign, and Northwest Spokesperson Maria Cabral says they’re inviting women to become “ambassadors”.
Once they are registered, they will receive 11 “Thingamaboob” keychains to give out to other women in order to start the conversation about breast cancer and screening.
For more information on how to become an ambassador, visit www.cancer.ca/womentowomen.
Cabral tells CKDR news that 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Right now, only 61% of women in Ontario are getting screened for breast cancer.
Over 9,000 Ontario women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and more than 1,000 will die from it.
Cabral says women between 50-69 years old should be getting a mammogram every two years.
