Standoff in Balmertown is Over

A stand-off is over in Balmertown. Early Sunday morning Red Lake OPP received a report of a male who had barricaded himself inside a residence on Dickenson road. Members of the Red Lake OPP attended the scene and made numerous attempts to contact the male inside the residence which proved to be unsuccessful. To ensure the safety of the public, members of the Red Lake and Ear Falls OPP set up a perimeter surrounding the residence with support of various OPP resources including the OPP Emergency Response Team and Tactical and Rescue Unit. Just before 5 o’clock this morning the Tactical and Rescue Unit arrived in Red Lake and entered the residence. Upon entry, officers located a deceased male inside. No foul play is suspected. The name of the deceased will not be released. Officers will remain on scene at the residence as they continue their investigation.
