The Municipality of Sioux Lookout has declared a state of emergency.
The decision was made to accommodate hundreds of residents from Keewaywin First Nation in the far north.
More than 100 Keewaywin residents are now staying at the Sioux Lookout Rec Centre and the town may be asked to house the entire native community of 450 people.
The municipality continues to work with a number of agencies to ensure the evacuees are safe and comfortable.
The rec centre will be closed to Sioux Lookout residents until further notice.
