STOP Program Helping Smokers Quit

A stop-smoking initiative is back in the region.
The Northwestern Health Unit is promoting the STOP program, which provides free nicotine patches and advise to help smokers kick the habit.
Health Promoter Christine McLeod says workshops are being held in Red Lake on March 19th, Dryden on the 20th and Sioux Lookout on the 21st.
McLeod says the initiative has been successful in the past.
She notes having access to free support actually doubles the chance a smoker will have a successful quit attempt and stay smoke free.
McLeod says this is the sixth year they’ve offered the program.
To take part in the workshop call 1-888-404-4231.
