A report on student drug use in Northwestern Ontario
was released yesterday by the Thunderbay & Northwestern
Ontario health units.
The 2005 survey of grade 7 to 12 students showed alcohol
and cigarette use was down from previous years.
While the health unit is pleased with the drop, they are
alarmed to see an increase in the use of harder narcotics
such as cocaine.
Spokesperson Val Mann says the information from the
survey is priceless.

Mann says the use of peer programs in the region are
mainly responsible for the drop in smoking and alcohol use
among high school students.
