Cigarette smoking, and alcohol use is down in the region
among high school students, however stronger narcotics
such as crystal meth and cocaine are up.
The data is part of a 2005 survey of grade 7 to 12
students in the Northwestern and Thunder Bay health units
service area.
NWHU Spokesperson Val Mann says they have a theory why
smoking & drinking rates are down.

Cigarette use has dropped 40% since 2001, while drinking
is down almost 10%. Cocaine and Crack use has almost
doubled from 3% in 2001 to 6% last year.
