Students At ELA Ecstatic With Federal Funding

Masters students at the Experimental Lakes Area, west of Vermilion Bay are voicing their support for a $4-million federal commitment towards research at the facility.

Bryanna Sherbo says a lot has changed since she started working at the ELA, noting there wasn’t a lot of funding or job security.

Sherbo says this investment is great for the long term stability of the facility and gives all young scientists hope for the future.

Sherbo is studying the effects of algae and has been working at the research facility for almost two years.

Lauren Timlick has been at the ELA for four years.

Timlick says you can’t tell if an experiment is making a difference if you don’t have background information.

She notes this funding is going specifically towards that and she says it will help future experiments for a long time to come.
