The vast Boreal Forest that straddles the Ontario/Manitoba border generates up to 130 million dollars a year in economic activity.
The International Institute for Sustainable Development says the money comes from fishing, camping, trapping and even the value of
river water that eventually powers northern Hydro dams.
Steven Barg is one of the authors of the report and says they wanted to show that the wilderness area has value for things other than mining or forestry.
The area studied in the report is being proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
