Confederation College is touting the benefits of the First Nations Natural Resources Youth Employment program.
The initiative is a joint one between the College, Lakehead University and Outland Camps.
The program exposed aboriginal students to careers in natural resources and 55 youth participated in the most recent camp.
The students learned more about aboriginal mentorship, entrepreneurship, sustainable energy sources, geography and archaeology.
Confederation officials say it helps youth focus on leadership development, social skills and work ethic.
They say the initiative allows youth to further develop their skills and gives them real-world experience while they learn.
Officials add it’s an excellent way to introduce young aboriginals to their choices for post-secondary education in the region.
