Tornado Watches Issued for Red Lake, Kenora and Fort Frances

A Tornado Watch is in effect for the Red Lake and Woodland Caribou Park area according to Environment Canada.

The Tornado Watch also includes Kenora and Fort Frances.

Environment Canada says a Tornado Watch is issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.

In the event of a tornado or if a Tornado Warning is issued, Environment Canada says to go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.

They also say to leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.

At the same time, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace and other areas are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch that could produce 100 kph winds, damaging hail and a risk of Tornados.
