Unifor says after five months of futile talks with CN Rail, the union will be commencing strike votes early next week.
The union will be setting a strike deadline close to the end of March to allow CN customers to make alternative arrangements.
President Jerry Dias says CN is highly profitable, even more so than CP, yet somehow it’s claiming it can’t meet the same pattern that was established with CP.
That deal included a number of improvements in rail safety and working conditions.
Dias adds CN is trying to get a discounted settlement, by counting on the government to cut off collective bargaining with back to work legislation.
Unionized workers have been without a contract since last December.
