The Treaty Three Police have become one of the first police forces in northwestern Ontario to arm its officers with taser guns.
The first nations police service has purchased nine taser guns and trained its sergeants to use them.
Brian Rupert is chief of the Treaty Three Police and says tasers provide a less lethal option to guns, and in some cases are more effective than some of the other weapons officers have at their disposal.

Rupert adds that Treaty Three is only the second aboriginal police force in Canada using taser guns right now, but expects more will follow suit.
