Tbaytel is out with more information on the massive outage that left most of us without contact over the weekend.
In an e-mail to the CKDR Newsroom, company spokesperson Laura Foulds says the outage started early Friday night and impacted both data and voice services to Upsala, Ignace, Dryden, Rainy River, Sioux Lookout, Ear Falls, Balmertown and Red Lake.
Kenora saw some limited disruption as well.
The problem also impacted Tbaytel’s regional wireless high speed Internet and affected the eHealth service the company provides to several regional hospitals.
Foulds says the source of the outage was damage to a fibre optic cable the company uses to deliver service and it’s leased from a third party.
She adds they are working with the third party to determine the cause.
Full service was restored Tuesday morning.
Foulds says their technicians worked around the clock to help repair the damaged fibre.
She’s apologizing for the inconvenience and thanking customers for their patience.
