The North West Health Integration Network has invested $353,971 into telemedicine. Telemedicine was first introduced to Northern Ontario in 1998 to help improve access to health care across the region and eliminate costly and time-consuming long distance travel. The North West LHIN says the money invested is going directly to upgrading and replacing old equipment.
Across the region there are more than 120 active Ontario Telemedicine sites, and there efforts last year helped residence avoid $9 million in travel costs.
