Bowater has “temporarily curtailed” operations at its Ignace Sawmill resulting in the layoff of 13 hourly employees.
Bowater says the Plant still has 16 people working on a full-time basis chipping logs on the property.
The Company blames the Sawmill shutdown on a prolonged fibre supply shortage.
The layoff is expected to last up to 3 to 6 weeks.
The Plant employs 35 people and began lumber production this Spring following a lengthy strike.
It was purchased by Bowater in 2002.
